I am obsessed with the threshold between wake-ness and slumber, teetering between the real and unreal. Every creation of mine is inspired by the desire to exist in that liminal space and fall into my dream-world where everything is right and real. I cannot help but accept the events of a dream, even as I sink into nightmarish waters. But, if I allow my body to relax, I will float to the top unharmed. I long for that feeling of tension, release, and acceptance when I create.
I craft my dream world by using electro-acoustic sound-worlds, and macro wildlife videography. I lean into what is uncomfortable and nightmarish about life and paint it in a different light, like filming an unexpected insect visitor, focusing on its artistically crafted wings, or documenting the process of decomposition in nature when I stumble upon an ant colony. Small life-forms inspire me to explore the inner workings of nature and illustrate it in my music.
With the help of my musical saw, flute, voice, and electronics, I craft lush soundscapes and recreate my dream-world through musical performances, soundscapes, film scores, and audio-visual installation spaces. After diving into the waters of creativity, and embracing its nightmarish territory with gritted teeth and open arms, I allow myself to float.
